Dear Paula,
Thank you for your question. A Preferred Name can be put in the person's card under Personal Details > Other > Person Notes or under the Notes & Other tab of the card. If you would like to see a new field for this in future LEAP releases, we recommend submitting feedback to our Ideas and Feedback hub.
Kind regards,
Misty Petty

For an individual, you can open the card and go to "Details." Go over to the "Letter Dear" box and unclick "Auto."
Then type the contact's preferred name in the box. When creating templates, you can then insert the "Dear" field instead of first name.
Unfortunately, though, if the card is for a person who is also part of an organization this will no longer work. For example, if you have a card for "T. Joe Smith," you can have an individual card that has full name of "T. Joe Smith" for when the full name is more appropriate and the "Dear" field in the template to have "Joe" when that is more appropriate.
However, if you have a Card for a law firm with more than one attorney and you include Joe as one of the attorneys in the firm, you're stuck with "T. Joe."
Thanks Scott. This is helpful but not as comprehensive as it should be for engaging in day-to-day contact with clients.
Thanks Misty. I just made a suggestion. I think this information is something that needs to be on the front of cards, not just in a note section where staff might not see it before speaking to a client.
