Automation Repair

DISCLAIMER: This advice may include, but is not limited to, changes to the Windows Registry, Windows permissions, network settings, and antivirus/firewall settings. These actions should only be performed by an experienced IT support professional.

Purpose: An Automation Repair is for resolving issues with LEAP's integration with Microsoft Office applications.

When to use: If there are problems with LEAP add-ins for Microsoft Word, Excel, or Outlook, such as unable to open Word documents or Outlook emails from a LEAP matter. 

These are the five steps to do an Automation Repair.

  1. Close LEAP and all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, and Excel).

  2. Press the Windows key + R
    Type %programfiles% and press Enter
    Open the LEAP Office folder 
    Delete the Office Automation folder

  3. Remove the following Files and Folders from Local App Data
    Press the Windows key + R
    Type %localappdata% and press Enter
    Open the Microsoft Corporation folder
    Delete the Folders with LEAP in the name

  4. Download the LEAP Desktop installer.
    Run the installer and accept the install prompts. 

  5. Next, Perform a Microsoft Office Repair

    • Press the Windows key + R
    • Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter
    • Select Microsoft 365 Apps > right click > Change > Quick Repair > Repair

    If the User Account Control Settings screen appears, get in touch with your IT professional to enter the credentials.

Examples of issues that may require an Automation Repair include:

Microsoft Word/Excel:

  • New or existing documents are not opening in Microsoft Word or are crashing Microsoft Word.
  • The LEAP add-in for Microsoft Word is not loading or is missing. (LEAP Word ribbon) 
  • The LEAP add-in for Microsoft Excel is not loading or is missing. (LEAP Excel ribbon) 
  • Slowness or freezing when opening a document from a LEAP matter.
  • Error: COM object that has been separated from its underlying RCW cannot be used
  • Unable to see a Word document or note saved to matter in the matter correspondence window.
  • The remote procedure call failed (Exception from HRESULT: 0800706BE)
  • The RPC server is unavailable (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)
  • Exception error HRESULT:0x800A01A8
  • Issues opening Excel / Word documents from LEAP
  • Error Code 1;-7 may occur when opening documents in Microsoft Word. If the error appears only with a specific file, the document may be corrupted.
  • Conversion from sting * to type ‘integer’ is not valid.

 

Microsoft Outlook:

  • Unable to save emails from Outlook to LEAP.
  • LEAP Office for Outlook add-in is missing.
  • The Save to Matter button is not loading or is missing.
  • Issues connecting LEAP to Outlook.
  • The LEAP add-in for Microsoft Outlook is not saving emails or opening emails.
  • Emails are not moving to the 'Inbound LEAP Matter Based Emails' folder after being saved to a matter in LEAP if the option 'Move Assigned Email(s)' is enabled.
  • Sent emails are not moving to the 'Outbound LEAP Matter Based Emails' folder if the option 'Move Assigned Email(s)' is enabled.
  • Unable to drag and drop emails to LEAP.
  • Slowness or freezing when opening an email from a LEAP matter.
  • Missing the 'Inbound LEAP Matter Based Emails' folder and 'Outbound LEAP Matter Based Emails' folder in Microsoft Outlook.
  • Unable to attach files from LEAP to Outlook — the screen remains stuck on the loading phase during the process.
  • Missing the Insert File option in Outlook when trying to attach a document from a LEAP matter to an email.

In addition to carrying out an Automation Repair, you may need to restart your device if issues continue occurring. You will also need to add LEAP to your Antivirus and Firewall exceptions list if you experience issues such as crashes in LEAP, Word or Outlook. Antivirus software and firewall solutions have an aggressive approach to protecting your computer. Sometimes they can block harmless files due to the file’s name, size, data or actions. This may result in unexpected issues for you.
