There are two ways to handle writing off Work In Progress (WIP) in LEAP, and both preserve a visible trail.

Option 1: Mark the WIP as "Not Billable". This is the quickest approach. To make the time entry as Not Billable:

1. Open the matter
2. Go to the Time & Fees tab
3. Right-click on the time entry
4. Change its status to Set to Not Billable

The entry stays on the matter, it is simply flagged so it won't appear on future invoices or in your Aged WIP Report. You can still view it by adjusting your filter to include Not Billable entries, and it will also appear under the "Fees Written Off" column in the Fee Contributions & Recovery Report.

Option 2: Invoice the WIP, then Write Off the Invoice. This creates a more formal accounting trail.

1. Create a new invoice on the matter that includes the amount for WIP and finalize it
2. Then go to the Operating Accounting tab > right-click on the invoice > select Adjust Invoice
3. Click the Write Off button on the bottom left and process the write-off

This moves the WIP through the full invoicing cycle, recorded, billed, then formally written off, which gives you a complete audit trail. The write-off will also synchronize to your accounting software (e.g. Xero) if linked.

Depending on your preference and firm's policy, either options will preserve the history of the time entry.
