LEAP does not support 32-bit installations of Microsoft 365 apps, as outlined in our System Requirements.

With the release of LEAP 2.5, the installer now alerts users if a 64-bit version of Microsoft 365 is not installed. A similar warning appears if a 32-bit version is detected, and the installation will be halted, prompting you to cancel.

The installer checks for the presence of Microsoft Office and scans for registry keys indicating a 32-bit installation of Microsoft 365 apps. If you have the 32-bit version, you will need to uninstall it and reinstall the 64-bit version from the Microsoft website.

In some cases, even after installing the 64-bit version, the LEAP installer may detect leftover registry keys from a previous 32-bit installation of Microsoft Office.

To resolve this, we recommend contacting your IT consultant to perform a complete removal of Microsoft 365. Microsoft provides tools for IT professionals to remove any residual keys or files from previous installations. Afterward, Microsoft 365 can be reinstalled from their website.

If the above advice has not resolved the issue, and the LEAP installer is still detecting a 32-bit installation of Microsoft 365 apps it may be necessary for your IT consultant to locate and manually remove the keys being detected by the installer.

This should only be performed if the previous advice is unsuccessful and should only ever be performed by a technician who is experienced and comfortable editing the Microsoft Windows registry.

  1. Check for any of the following keys in the registry:

    • Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook
    • Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook
    • Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook
    • Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook
    • Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook
    • Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook

  2. Look for a string in any of these keys named 'Bitness' with a value of 'x86'.

  3. Export (backup) any key which has this value.

  4. Rename the 'Outlook' key to 'Outlook.OLD'.

  5. Run Outlook to ensure it still works. If there are no issues, close Outlook.

  6. Re-run the LEAP Desktop installer.

If the installer still halts at the 32-bit version warning, you will need to contact a LEAP support agent.
