• Based on verified answers (where relevant) from our proprietary knowledge base, a grounded web search, and the existing LLM’s knowledge

When you ask LawY a legal question, you’ll first receive instant AI-answers. These are designed for speed and simplicity, ideal for quick research, speedy drafting, and case summaries.

When you’re ready to go deeper into the legal principles or explore a complex question, you can choose to boost your research via Deep Research. Deep Research delivers a robust and fulsome analysis in a longer timeframe.

In summary, instant AI-answers:

• Are fast and reliable answers to your legal questions
• Offer a powerful springboard for your legal research
• Are delivered in seconds or up to a minute

Comparatively, Deep Research AI-answers:

• Offer deeper analysis of your legal question
• Require longer to generate
• Include optional verification by a ‘lawyer-in-the-loop’

If you submitted your LawY AI answer for verification, you will be notified when the answer has been verified. 

You will receive a notification in your LEAP notification window accessible from the LEAP Desktop main page.

LawY includes a number of AI tools to refine either your prompt or the AI-answer.

To access these tools, select the ‘AI tools’ icon.  

• Summarize: Shorten your prompt or the AI-answer in one-click.
• Translate: Translate your question or output to another language.
• Remove PII: Remove any personally identifiable information from your question in one click.
• Change tone: Adjust the tone to professional, casual, straightforward, confident or friendly.

• How much does it cost to use LawY? 

  LawY is included in your LEAP subscription. This means LEAP users can ask questions and submit AI-answers for verification at no extra cost. 

• Is client information secure with LawY? 

  LawY does not extract or access information from your legal matters. This is due to our approach of privacy by design, which ensures you keep complete control of your information and how it is used.
  While the use of PII (personally identifiable information) should be avoided, there are multiple layers of safeguards in the case of inadvertent disclosure. Additionally, LawY does not use your answers to train any AI model.
  Only verified answers that have been stripped of any PII (if necessary) are included in LawY's knowledge base, ensuring that your sensitive data remains securely within your control.

• Can I use LawY for my area of law?

           Yes, LawY is currently available in the United States for the following areas of law:            Estate Planning, Estate Admin & Probate, Elder Law, Family Law and Real Estate

• Is LawY available in LEAP mobile?

          No, LawY is not currently available in the LEAP Mobile.

• Is it possible to disable LawY or MatterAI for a specific user?

           No, It is not possible to disable LawY or MatterAI for users.

• What happens when I submit for verification? 

  This sends your question/s to one of our ‘lawyers-in-the-loop’, also known as our Verifiers. They are the experienced practitioners who review your question and amend the AI-answer where necessary to improve accuracy. This process usually takes between 1-3 business days, depending on the area of law and the complexity of the question.

Once verification is complete, the Verifier will make your question as ‘Verified’ and you will receive a notification in LEAP. 

• How long does it take to get a question verified? 

  Verification usually takes 1-3 business days, depending on your area of law and the complexity of your question. For most areas of law, this timeframe is usually shorter.

Verifiers are encouraged to complete the process of verification within 4 hours of receiving the AI-answer. However, the time to match an AI-answer with a Verifier may vary, especially in niche areas of law where we may not have as many Verifiers. 

• How do I know when my question is verified? 

  You will get a notification in LEAP to inform you that the answer to your question has been verified. You can also open LawY to check on the status of your question. 

• Research tool or legal advice? 

  LawY cannot provide legal advice. This is because we’re an AI-powered legal research tool, focused on giving you the flexible features to enhance your efficiency. We focus on helping you explore legal questions and principles with unparalleled accuracy and relevance. 
  But AI should never replace the crucial work of a lawyer, because only a qualified lawyer can apply the legal principles to the nuanced and complex facts of the matter.

All LawY users must maintain their professional obligations by reading, understanding, and checking the accuracy of all AI-answers they receive; and furthermore, they are responsible for applying the research to their unique case. Features like verification only increase confidence in any AI-answer and do not replace the work of a lawyer.

• How can I submit a question for verification in LawY?

          To submit questions in LawY for verification:

1. 1. Ask your legal question into LawY.
   2. Select Ask. This will enhance your research by extracting a list of substantive legal questions from your conversation, allowing for a deeper exploration of legal principles.
   3. Review the generated questions and select those most relevant to your inquiry, then click Next.
   4. Click Deep Research + Human Verification.
      1. Select questions based on what you would like to explore further. Once you are happy with your selection, click Next.
      2. Select relevant facts for your research and click Request Research.
      3. Select whether you want to submit the question for Deep Research or Deep Research + Verification.
   5. Once the verification process is complete, you will receive a notification in LEAP.

• What can I submit for verification in LawY?
  

  You can submit any Deep Research AI-answers for verification. This means that instant AI-answers are not eligible for verification.

You may be wondering: why the change? This shift is the result of extensive user feedback and ongoing product evolution. We’re adapting the role of our lawyers-in-the-loop to ensure they provide the greatest value—particularly where their legal insight truly makes a difference. Deep Research answers are designed for substantive legal queries where such in-depth input adds real weight and confidence to your legal research.

Furthermore, verification is not available on templates (e.g. affidavits or letters) or case summaries for a number of reasons. In the case of templates, this is because these materials often require a nuanced understanding of the specific facts—an area where only the practicing lawyer can make accurate assessments. For case summaries, when a URL is provided, LawY generates summaries based on the primary source itself, allowing you to dive deeper through the chat interface. When a single case is requested, LawY uses a previously verified source link to maximize accuracy from the outset.

• What if my substantive legal question is not appearing in the list?
  

  On any conversation, you can click ‘Generate’ to view a list of all substantive legal questions, extracted from your conversation. 
  If you think there is a substantive legal question missing from your list, we recommend typing your question again into the chat window below the list of questions. Make it as succinct and clear as possible. Then click the ‘Ask’ button to continue your conversation. You can then click ‘Generate’ again and, your additional question should appear in the list.

  Please note, templates (e.g. affidavits, letters, etc.) or case summaries and the like are not eligible for Deep Research — so these types of questions will not appear in the generated list.

• Is there still an option for Rapid Research?

We previously offered ‘Rapid Research’ as one of our flexible tools, for when you wanted concise answers to your more substantive legal questions. We've thoughtfully incorporated the intelligence behind Rapid Research into our Instant AI-answers, which we're continuously refining. This creates a much better user experience by simplifying the available options. For those times when you need to go deeper, Deep Research remains your go-to destination.
