Create a New Document/Letter

Open the matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Click New Document.

The Create Document window will open.

The Create Document should default to your Letter, but this can be changed by right-clicking another document type and selecting Set as Default. For more information on creating Document Types, click here.
Select the Document Type.
Select the Recipient.
Click Create.

A new document will open in Microsoft Word.
Complete the document then click Save & Close or Rename & Close to save and rename the new document.

The Document/Letter will save to your current location in the correspondence folder structure. For example, if you are creating a new document from a sub-folder of the matter, the document will be saved here. Should you need to move the document, please refer to the Move a Document section below.

If a document is being worked on by two users simultaneously and one user saves the document, the other user will receive an alert displaying the saved date/time by the staff member that is editing the document at the same time.

Save a Document

To Save a New Word Document to a Matter:

Open the Word document you want to save.
Click the Save to Matter icon located in the top-left corner of the Word ribbon
Select the relevant matter when prompted.

The document will be saved to the selected matter under the Details & Correspondence tab in LEAP.
To update an existing document within a LEAP matter, open the document, make the necessary changes, and click Save & Close in the LEAP ribbon to ensure the updated version is saved to the matter.
To save a copy of the same document to multiple matters:
1. You can duplicate the document within LEAP, then right-click the duplicate and select: Move > Move to another Matter.
2. The duplicated document will then appear under the Details & Correspondence tab in the new matter.
3. Alternatively, export the document to your desktop or a local folder, then upload it to each matter individually using LEAP’s Document Import feature.

Move a Document

Move to a Folder

To move documents from one folder to another, please follow these steps:

Open the matter where the document is located.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Right-click the document then select Move > Move to Folder. To select multiple documents, hold the Ctrl key then select them.

The Select a Matter window will open.
Select the folder then click OK.

Move to Another Matter

To move documents from one matter to another, please follow these steps:

LEAP currently does not support the functionality to move folders between matters.

Open the matter where the document is located.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Right-click the document then select Move > Move to another Matter.

The Select a Matter window will open.
Select the matter then click Select.
You will be prompted if you would like the rename the document(s) before moving.

Select Yes to enter a new document name or No to continue without renaming the document.

Tick the Don't show me this message again checkbox if you prefer not to see the alert when moving documents to another matter.

If you wish to change the setting and restore the prompt to rename a document, hold down the ALT key and click Select after selecting the matter.

To move a document to an Archived matter, you will need to unarchive the matter first. For more information on restoring Archived matters, please click here.

If you receive the error "LEAP cannot save the matter's folder structure" while moving documents into a large matter, please Repair LEAP and ensure that LEAP is added to your Antivirus and Firewall Exception list.

Compare Two Documents

Within a Matter

Open the matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Hold the Ctrl key then select two documents.
Right-click the selected documents then select Compare Document.

The Compare Documents window will open.
Click Swap Documents if you wish to swap between the Original and Revised Document.
Click Compare.

A Word document will open and highlight the revisions and differences between the two documents.

From Two Matters

Open the first matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Right-click the first document then select Compare Document.

The Compare Documents window will open listing the selected document in the Original Document field.
Return to the LEAP Matter List.
Open the second matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Right-click the second document then select Compare Document.

The Compare Documents window will be brought to front listing the selected document in the Revised Document field.
Click Swap Documents if you wish to swap between the Original and Revised Document.
Click Compare.

A Word document will open and highlight the revisions and differences between the two documents.

From Outside of LEAP

From the LEAP Matter List, click the LEAP Menu > Home > Document Compare.

The Compare Documents window will open.
Click next to Original Document.

The Browse dialog will open in a new window.
Select the document from your computer.
Click Open.

The selected document will be listed in the Original Document field.
Click next to Revised Document.

The Browse dialog will open in a new window.
Select the document from your computer.
Click Open.

The selected document will be listed in the Revised Document field.
Click Swap Documents if you wish to swap between the Original and Revised Document.
Click Compare.

A Word document will open and highlight the revisions and differences between the two documents.

View History of Changes of a Document

Open the matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Right-click the document then select History of Changes.

The History of Changes window will open.
From the History of Changes window, you will be able to see:
- Date & Time of the change
- Reason for Change/Description
- Action (Create, Edit or Change)
- User Initials

You can restore the document to a previous version by selecting the version then clicking Set as Current.

Compare Two Document Versions

Open the matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Right-click the document then select History of Changes.

The History of Changes window will open.
Hold the Ctrl key then select two document versions.
Click Compare.

The Compare Documents window will open.
Click Swap Documents if you wish to swap between the Original and Revised Document.
Click Compare.

A Word document will open and highlight the revisions and differences between the two document versions.

Delete a Document

Open the matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Right-click the document then select Delete.
Enter the Reason for Deletion then click OK.

Restore a Deleted Document

Open the matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Click Ellipsis icon then select Show Deleted Correspondence.

All deleted correspondence are listed in red.
Right-click the deleted document then select Undelete.
Click Yes.

Permanently Delete a Document

This feature is only available to Admin users with Two-Factor Authentication turned on.

InfoTrack searches, card documents, card mailings and safe custody items cannot be permanently deleted.

Open the matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Click Ellipsis icon then select Show Deleted Correspondence.

All deleted correspondence are listed in red.
Right-click the deleted document then select Permanently Delete Document.

The LEAP Confirmation window will open.

You can permanently delete multiple documents by holding Ctrl on your keyboard and clicking the documents.
Enter your LEAP credentials then click Confirm.
Enter the verification code generated on your device via the LEAP Mobile app.
Click Verify.

Recover an AutoSaved Document

In the event of Microsoft Word closing unexpectedly, you can go back to the LEAP matter and open the document as usual. If there is a version that has been automatically recovered, you will be presented with the below options:

Compare - This will allow you to compare the last copy of the document you saved and the one Word recovered side by side.
Recover from AutoSave - This will open the auto-saved version of the document.
Open Last Saved Version - This will open the last manually saved copy of the document.

The Save AutoRecover feature in Microsoft Word will need to be set for this feature to work.

In Microsoft Word go to File > Options > Save.

Make sure the Save AutoRecover information every x minutes box is ticked.

Make sure the Keep the last Autorecovered version if I close without saving box is selected.

Recover an Unsaved Document

If you've lost a document in LEAP that you were working on, it may not be recoverable if it wasn't saved correctly within the LEAP system. However, you can try these steps to locate and recover the file:

Open any word document in a LEAP matter.
Go to the File tab in the top left corner, select Info, and then click Open file location.
Sort the list by date and check for any saved versions of the document.
Once located, recover the document and resave it back into LEAP.

Create a New Document/Letter

Open the matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Click New Document.

The New Document window will open.
Select the Document Type, eg, Letter, File Note, Blank Document etc.
Select the Recipient.
Click Create or click the arrow next to Create to select Create with Office Online.
Complete the document then click Save & Close or Rename & Close to save and rename the new document.

Move a Document to a Folder

Open the matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Right-click the document then select Move to Folder.

The Move Document window will open.
Select the folder then click Move.

You can only move one document at a time; moving multiple documents at once is not an option.

Note: You cannot move a document from one matter to another matter with LEAP Web. You can only move a document from one matter to another matter with LEAP Desktop.

Delete a Document

Open the matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Right-click the document then select Delete.

Restore a Deleted Document

Open the matter.
Make sure you're on the Details & Correspondence tab.
Click in Correspondence then select Show Deleted.

All deleted correspondence are grayed out.
Right-click the deleted document then select Undelete.

LEAP iOS App

Create a New Word Document

Open the matter.
Swipe to or tap the Correspondence tab.
Tap > Document.
Select the Document Type.
Select the Recipient.
Tap Create.

Sign into your Microsoft Office 365 account, if prompted.
Tap in the top-left hand corner of the document to save it once you're finished.

The document will be saved in the matter under the Correspondence tab.

Edit an Existing Word Document

Open the matter.
Swipe to or tap the Correspondence tab.
Open the Word document.
Tap > Open in Word.

Sign into your Microsoft Office 365 account, if prompted.
Tap in the top-left hand corner of the document to save it after editing.

Microsoft Word iOS App

Create a New Word Document

Open the Microsoft Word app.
Tap .
Select a template.
Tap in the top-left hand corner of the document to save it once you're finished.
Name the document.
Select LEAP under Open. Select Add Storage Account and find LEAP if it's not in the list.
Select a matter and then Save.

Edit an Existing Word Document

Open the Microsoft Word app.
Tap .
Select LEAP under Open. Select Add Storage Account and find LEAP if it's not in the list.
Select a matter.
Select a Word document on the list to open it.
Tap in the top-left hand corner of the document to save it after editing.

LEAP iOS App

Tap > Document.

Tap in the top-left hand corner of the document to save it once you're finished.

Edit an Existing Word Document

Open the matter.
Swipe to or tap the Correspondence tab.
Open the Word document.
Tap Open in Word.
Tap in the top-left hand corner of the document to save it after editing.

Microsoft Word iOS App

Create a New Word Document

Open the Microsoft Word app.
Tap .
Select a template.
Tap in the top-left hand corner of the document to save it once you're finished.
Name the document.
Select LEAP under Open. Select Add Storage Account and find LEAP if it's not in the list.
Select a matter then tap Save.

Edit an Existing Word Document

Open the Microsoft Word app.
Tap .
Select LEAP under Open. Select Add Storage Account and find LEAP if it's not in the list.
Select a matter.
Select a Word document on the list to open it.
Tap in the top-left hand corner of the document to save it after editing.

LEAP Android App

Create a New Word Document

Open the matter.
Swipe to or tap the Correspondence tab.
Tap > Document.
Select the Document Type you wish to create.
Tap Next.
Select the Recipient from the list.

To preview the recipient's details, click the icon.
Tap Create.

If this is your first time using the Microsoft Word feature on your device you may receive one of the following prompts:
- Download MS Office/Word app if not installed yet;
- Sign in to MS Office/Word app if installed and connecting for the first time;
- Sign in to LEAP with your credentials (Microsoft does not support auto sign-in for Android).
Sign into your Microsoft Office 365 account, if prompted.
Make the necessary updates or amendments to your document, then tap in the top-left hand corner of the document to save it once you're finished.

The document will be saved in the matter under the Correspondence tab.

Edit an Existing Word Document

Open the matter.
Swipe to or tap the Correspondence tab.
Open the Word document.
Tap > Open in Office.

Sign into your Microsoft Office 365 account, if prompted.
Make the necessary updates or amendments to your document, then tap in the top-left hand corner of the document to save it once you're finished.

The document will be saved in the matter under the Correspondence tab.

Microsoft Word Android App

Create a New Word Document

Open the Microsoft Word app.
Tap and select a Template.
Make the necessary updates or amendments to your document, then tap in the top-right hand corner to save it once you're finished.
Tap Save As to open the 'Places' window.
Name your document and select LEAP under the Places option.

Click to edit heading

If you do not see LEAP as an option under Places, tap + Add a place on your device and search for LEAP from the storage options.
Scroll through your available LEAP Matters and select the matter you wish to save the document to.
Tap Save.

Edit an Existing Word Document

Open the Microsoft Word app.
Tap .
Select LEAP from the 'Places' options.

A list of all your LEAP Matters will show.
Tap to select a matter.

A list of all the Word documents from your matter will show.
Tap the document you wish to open.
Make the necessary updates or amendments to your document, then tap in the top-left hand corner of the document to save it once you're finished.

The document will be saved in the matter under the Correspondence tab.
