Go to "Details and Correspondence," and double-click on the "Matter Type." That will give you an option to swap the designation of Plaintiff/Defendant between the parties.

Thank you for your reply but the problem is that I cannot remove the status of the person that was mistakenly entered as my client. For example Susan Smith v. John Doe. Joe Doe is my client but by mistake Susan Smith was entered as my client when preparing the matter. Switching the parties from Plaintiff to Defendant does not correct the client designee that is attached to Susan Smith. I need to know how to switch the client designee to John Doe.

Yes. It's a simple fix. Here are screenshots.
You need to access the "Matter Type" table. Or maybe they call it the "Matter Type" card. See screenshots below. It's always the second major category card down from the top. So if you have multiple Client cards or multiple Personal Representative Cards as the first entry in the table, it will be the card immediately below the last of the Client cards or PR Cards. You can change the jurisdiction, the matter type, and the Description using this window.
Right click where indicated.
Select Open Matter Type
Use this pulldown arrow and you can indicate which Role serves as the Client, the Opposing Party, the Opposing Counsel, etc.I hope that helps.

My client was inadvertently entered as the plaintiff, but he is the defendant. I can switch my "client" to be the defendant in the drop down, but it doesn't change the designation on the name of my client, IE: John Doe is still listed as plaintiff and I want to make him the defendant, and Susan Smith should then switch to the plaintiff (from being the defendant).

Try right clicking on the name you want to replace and the enter the right person's name.

Now I am wondering if I didn't understand your question. Can you 'right click' on each of the parties and then click on "remove"?
You would then be able to use chose "Add **** from card list."
