How to roll back to an earlier version of Microsoft 365 online so that Outlook opens emails saved to a matter

New Outlook is incompatible with LEAP. LEAP says to rollback the the previous version of Microsoft 365. I was able to rollback to the January 2024 version of Microsoft 365 online to be able to open emails saved in LEAP matters.

Then, I'm not sure why, but it changed to New Outlook. I moved the slider back to the classic Outlook but that didn't work.

I updated Microsoft 365 online to the current version.

Then, I followed the steps in the following article to rollback to the version that worked before: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-revert-to-an-earlier-version-of-office-2bd5c457-a917-d57e-35a1-f709e3dda841

In order to navigate in the Command Prompt, the above instructions omit the DOS "change directory" command, "cd" (without the quotations) to go to the folder where the config.xml and setup.exe extracted files are located. In my case, it was cd \users\myname\documents\microsoft365rollback

That didn't work.

I discovered that an additional step is necessary. You need to uninstall "New Outlook" on your local computer to be able to open emails saved in LEAP matters. The rollback alone did not delete the local "New Outlook" application.

That raises some concern for me. What happens if Microsoft comes out with new versions of Outlook that aren't compatible with the then existing Outlook and there isn't an option to roll back.

Will LEAP no longer be able to read the saved emails? I can see potential problems with document retention if that were the case.
