Setting Up Xero with LEAP

Before you can use Xero with LEAP, you’ll first need to have your Xero account up and running. You’ll then need to set up the chart of accounts in both Xero and LEAP.

Add GL account codes to Xero

 
  1. Open Xero and log into your account.

  2. Click Settings > Chart of Accounts from the Xero Menu bar.

  3. Click Add Account and create the following accounts:

Add GL account codes to LEAP

Desktop: Click the LEAP Menu > Settings > Application Settings.

The LEAP Application Settings will open in a new window.

 

Web: Click User-added image > Settings > Application Settings.

The LEAP Application Settings will open in a new window.

  1. Click Accounting > General Ledger > Account Codes.

  2. Enter the GL Account Codes you created in Xero.

  3. Ensure that the Client Credits Tax Code field is set to NO TAX.

  4. Click Save.

Set your accounting basis

 

When LEAP is configured by one of our consultants, they will set your accounting basis as you require. If you wish to change your accounting basis, you’ll need to contact the Helpdesk, as any changes to the accounting basis are password protected. For more information about the accounting basis, click here.

Verify tax codes

 

After your accounting basis has been set up, the relevant tax codes will be automatically imported into LEAP. To check or make any changes to the tax codes.

Desktop: Click the LEAP Menu > Settings > Application Settings.

The LEAP Application Settings will open in a new window.

 

Web: Click User-added image > Settings > Application Settings.

The LEAP Application Settings will open in a new window.

  1. Click Accounting > General Ledger > Tax Codes.

The appropriate tax codes for your selected accounting basis are displayed. It’s a good idea at this point to check that the default tax codes have been selected in the Defaults section. To check your default tax codes:

  1. Click Defaults tab.

  2. You’ll notice that the tax codes are already pre-filled.

  3. Select a different tax code from the drop-downs if required.

Authorize LEAP to access Xero

 

The final step in setting up Xero and LEAP is to authorize LEAP access to Xero.

Desktop: Click the LEAP Menu > Accounting > under Operating Accounting > General Ledger Link.

The LEAP General Ledger will open in a new window.

 

Web: Click User-added image > Accounting > General Ledger.

The LEAP General Ledger window will open.

  1. Click Sync Now.

    The Xero login page will open in your default browser.

  2. Enter your Xero credentials and click Log in.

    Once you’ve completed all the above steps, you’ll be able to start using Xero with LEAP.
