Learn how to elevate your workflow with LEAP Automation for Microsoft Word. Explore various options from basic tasks like saving, to advanced features like fill-ins and PDF conversion which includes bookmark display.

Document Control

 

LEAP Automation offers a range of document management options within Microsoft Word, designed to help you save, update, share, and organize documents with ease. The table below provides a summary of each available option and its function:

Option

Description

Save & CloseSave and then close the current Microsoft Word document.
Rename & CloseChange the name of the Microsoft Word document and then close it.
Time Save & CloseSave and then close the current Microsoft Word document while also generating a new Time Entry for the time spent on the document.
SaveSave the Microsoft Word document without closing it and continue working on the document.
CloseClose the Microsoft Word document without saving.
UpdateRefresh all LEAP fields with the current data.
DeleteDelete the Microsoft Word Document from the matter.
Share DocumentShare document via LawConnect.

Advanced Functions

 

Option

Description

Bring to FrontYour LEAP software comes to the foreground to enable you to view the LEAP matter.
Apply Document TypeChange the type of document that you're working on, e.g., a letter to an email.
Run FillinRun a series of questions within the document that'll populate certain fields.
Convert Fields to TextConverts any fields in the current Microsoft Word document into plain text so that you can make one off changes to the document.
Enclosures TextInsert Encl. at the end of your Microsoft Word document.
Multiple PrintPrint and send the document to multiple parties.
Save AsThere are three options:
  • Copy of Document on Matter - save a copy of the document to the matter. You'll remain in the original document and can continue making changes.
  • New Document on Matter - save your current document as the new document to the matter. The current document will be closed, and the new version of the document will open for you to continue making changes.
  • To Disk - save the current document to your desktop and not within LEAP.
Paste with Fields

Paste text that includes fields.

Please Note: A simple copy and paste won't automatically update any fields.

Save to Matter as PDFSave the current document in PDF format to the matter.
Email AsThere are four options:
  • Attachment - create a new email with this document as an attachment in the current format.
  • PDF - create a new email with the current document as an attachment in PDF format.
  • Content - copy the contents of the current document into the body of an email.
  • Link To - creates a new email with a direct link to the current document, in the Attachment section, that can be sent to internal staff.
RenameChange the name of the Microsoft Word document.
Carbon Copy (Cc)Let each recipient know who else received the same correspondence. The full name and address of each selected party will appear after the cc.
Insert ClauseInsert a clause into the document. For more information, see Clause Library.
Provide FeedbackYou'll be directed to a window/tab in your default browser where you can let us know what you think about LEAP or make suggestions on new features you'd like to see incorporated into LEAP.

LEAP Automation Options for Microsoft Word

 

Open a Microsoft Word/Excel document from your matter then click the arrow in the bottom right corner of the Document Control section in the LEAP ribbon to open the LEAP Automation Options for Word/Excel window.

Option

Description

General
Allow Screen Updating during mergeInformation such as status bar prompts, input boxes, dialog boxes, and message boxes remain visible while Word is processing the current document.
Prompt for reason when saving documentAfter saving, a prompt will appear requesting a reason for this change to be made.
Microsoft Word Settings
Show BookmarksDisplays all the bookmarks in the document.
Shade Content Control FieldsWhen enabled, all content control fields are shaded.

If a template prompts you to save changes despite not making any updates but only including necessary data, you may need to untick Prompt for Reason When Saving Document from the LEAP Automation settings above and click OK.

This feature is only available in Microsoft Office Desktop applications and not on Microsoft Office Online.

Send as EmailCopy the contents of the current document into the body of an email.
Editing

Editing options include: 

  • Insert Fields - For more information about inserting fields, please see our article Inserting Fields into Documents/Templates
  • Format Fields - Change how fields are formatted within your document.
  • Replace References - Change the fields to another table type.
